Fire Bill Polian And Tony Dungy

Or forget about a Super Bowl. Here's why:

1. There are no answers at rush defense. There are no tackles being made. There are enormous holes. And this is taking place despite the fact that Dwight Freeney is being doubled on every down, taking an offensive lineman away from rush blocking up the middle - which is where the Colts are giving up the yards. Dungy is at fault here for failing to impress upon his players the importance of this aspect of the game. Polian is at fault for allowing a key linebacker to leave each of the last three years, thereby preventing any real chemistry or cohesion to occur in the defense.

2. Penalties. Undisciplined teams amass penalties. Undisciplined teams are not well coached. Someone should have by now taught Tarick Glenn not to move until the ball is snapped. Either he is incapable of learning this or no one has taught it effectively; but it boils down to the same thing. The Colts are making no progress. There is no further progress that the offense can make. The only thing left to do is make sure the defense gets better, and this team is not committed to doing that - or are simply unable. Incapable. Incompetent. I don't know. I don't have the answers, either.

All of these guys are in the locker room saying, "We need to improve." Except that they don't know how to do it and don't have coaches who can teach them how to do it. Normally this kind of disappointment for Colts fan is reserved for their January playoff collapse - which now seems certain to happen, since the Colts are playing awful football going into the home stretch. And the Colts still have to go to Jacksonville. Jeff Fisher is a brilliant coach, who is not afraid to take chances and play non-traditionally - and he knew what to do to take advantage of the inherent weaknesses that the Colts have not proven they can correct consistently.

This is an early post, written mostly from emotion, since I just watched the end to this joke of a game. I'll have the numbers (which will be quite ugly), and the new power rankings and MVP list later tonight. Maybe.
